Here Sara and I and guests will post musing, links to stuff that interests us, follow ups to workshops and events.

We often come across quotes, references, poems, that strike a cord, or resonate with the area or theme we may be working with.
Recently we delivered a Yama workshop on the subject of Brahmacharya where we explored the right use of energy, the concept of energy takers, and energy givers as well as how our habits and patterns can have a positive or a negative impact on us and those around us. One of the thoughts we shared seemed to resonate with a few of you…..
Historically this Yama has previously been translated as “celibacy” or “chastity” - however over time the focus has shifted more towards considering the practice of brahmacharya as the “right use of energy”
MUCH MORE RELATABLE PERHAPS….
Have you ever analysed how much time you spend on certain things… lost hours perhaps aimlessly scrolling or watching mindless TV… not only potentially “soul” destroying but also an activity that potentially depletes rather than supports us.
We all have a nite amount of time … doesn’t it make sense to use it more wisely.
Brahmacharya asks us to explore and adjust how we actually use and direct our energy.
Challenging the status quo, and moving our focus towards the internal aspects of self, rather than looking externally to nd happiness and contentment.
My mother-in-law used to have a small plaque beside her favourite chair…. it read something like.
“worrying is like being in a rocking chair… it’s something to do, but it doesn’t get you anywhere!”
She was a born worrier, and knew that about herself, knew it wasn’t helpful, and caused her lots of “issues” over the years.
The plaque was her daily reminder to “stop rocking” and get living.
If you resonate with the idea that perhaps you’re “wasting or misdirecting time and energy to something or someone that no longer serves you… then perhaps its time to learn from our past, and lean into a new way of directing your energy - nding lasting happiness and contentment through personal change and growth.
If we start by listening to what our bodies need in our practice we can respond appropriately… (slowing down, assessing where we are energy wise, resting when needed, challenging when appropriate) we are more likely to nd the right practice for right now.
This may require changes of habits, less ego driven behaviours, and a willingness to be more truthful and considered in the choices we make… listening to our bodies, conserving energy and expending energy in better ways… ways that serve us both ON AND OFF THE MAT!
“What behaviours lead you forward in the right way….
Where are you wasting time?
Is it time for a time / motion study of your own….?
